Richard "Roy" Kanouff Jr., of Linden, went to be with the Lord and Savior at his home on Nov. 25, 2019. Born Aug. 4, 1925, in Janesville, Pa. He was the son of Richard R. Kanouff Sr. and Minnie May Douglas Kanouff.
Roy leaves behind his loving wife, Peg, and six children, Jim (Linda) Kanouff, of Jersey Shore, Betsy (Rod) Chambers, of Jersey Shore, Donald Kanouff, of Magnolia, Texas, Barbara (Sid) Hernandez, of Spring, Texas, Troy (Linda) Kanouff, of Linden, and Sonia (Len) Taylor, of Jersey Shore. "Pappy on the Mountain" was blessed with 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; plus many nieces and nephews. He was the youngest of 13 children having one surviving sister, Alverta (105 years old), of Florida.
Roy served in the U.S. Army from 1949 to 1953 serving in Okinawa, Japan, before entering the Korean War. He retired from the Jersey Shore Area School District as head custodian of Salladasburg Elementary School. He then drove school van for Marden's Inc. for 12 years. He and Peg co-managed the Little Place Campground for 17 years where he enjoyed many hours of shooting pool and tossing horse shoes. Other hobbies included playing his guitar and other string instruments while singing old country songs and hymns, fishing and hunting. But what he loved most was spending time with his family.
He was a member of Haneyville Church but attended Grace Fellowship Church after moving off the mountain to Linden.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, at Grace Fellowship Church, 19 W. Ridge St., Avis, PA 17721. A time of visitation will be held 9:30 a.m. Saturday until the time of service at the church. His grandson, Pastor Ty Kanouff, will officiate.
Immediately following the service at church, Roy will be honored with full military honors by the Jersey Shore Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Susquehanna Health Supportive & Palliative Care, 1100 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701, or the Grace Fellowship Church, 19 W. Ridge St., Avis, PA 17721.
