Bertha M. Bierly

     Bertha M. Bierly, 88, a lifelong resident of Avis, went home to be with the Lord on January 2, 2025 at Jersey Shore Nursing and Rehab.

     She was the daughter of Bryon and Ida (Caris) Bierly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Doris Fanning, and a nephew, Gorden Fanning.

     Earlier in her life, "Bert" was a school crossing guard in Avis, getting children safely across busy Central Avenue. She also worked at the Avis Luncheonette. Later in life, she worked at the Blue Chimney Restaurant in Mill Hall. She had a great love for cats and could usually be found in the nursing home holding her two toy cats.

     She is survived by her nephew, Larry (Peggy) Fanning; a great niece, Amy Haagen; and three great nephews, Lucas, Ben, and Christopher Fanning.

     Service will be private at the convenience of the family.
