Bessie Martha Berfield

     Bessie Martha Berfield, 91, of Jersey Shore, passed away Thursday, Dec. 1, 2022 at Geisinger Jersey Shore Hospital.
     Born Sept. 6, 1931 in Mount Jewett, PA, she was a daughter to the late Walter Schleiff and the former Evelyn Dickinson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, John Berfield in 2017; and a daughter, Linda Kay.
     Bessie retired after many years of food service at the Salladasburg Elementary School.
     She is survived by her children, Martha (Robert) Garis of Port Charlotte, Fla. and John S. Berfield of Jersey Shore; grandchildren, Robert J. (Jennifer) Garis of Japan and Jason R. (Erin) Garis of Jefferson, La.; great-grandchildren, Eli, Valerie, Elizabeth and Emmett; and a brother, Edward Schleiff of Williamsport.
     She will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Jersey Shore Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
