Betty J. Poust, 91, of Ramsey, passed away on Nov. 25, 2022 at Heritage Springs Memory Care in Montoursville, after an extended illness.
Betty attended Jersey Shore High School and married her high school sweetheart, the late David L. Poust.
She worked with her husband at the family business, Irving’s Hardware, on Main Street in Jersey Shore until redevelopment after the 1972 flood.
In 1974, they opened Poust Taxidermy & Country store up Pine Creek, where Betty held holiday flea markets that became a favorite for locals and visitors alike.
She was a former president of the Jersey Shore Rotary Anns and the Independent Hose Company Ladies Auxiliary, as well as a former member of the Waterville Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, and Cummings Township election board.
She loved spending time with her family and friends and watching old western movies. She always enjoyed observing the wildlife around her home.
She was predeceased by her husband, David; a daughter, Cathy Ann (Eck), of Nippenose Valley; parents, Benjamin & Wanda Brown; two sisters; and two brothers.
She is survived by two sons, Dana (Ann) Poust, of Pine Creek, and Daniel (Rachelle) of New Oxford; daughter, Norma Shannon, of Cogan Station; one sister, Donna (Larry) Cardone, of York; one sister-in-law, Shirley (Robert) Rescinito; as well as nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday Dec. 2, 2022, at Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. Friday, until the time of service at Welker Funeral Home. The Pastor Jeff Howell will officiate. A private burial service will be held at the Jersey Shore cemetery.
