Charles Long Obituary


     Charles W. “Bud” Long, 90, of Jersey Shore, passed away Monday, November 14, 2022 at UPMC Williamsport Hospital.

     Born June 12, 1932 in Lock Haven, he was a son to the late Melvin Long and the former Frances Shultz. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Melvin and James, and a sister, Harriett Dershem.

     Bud attended Lock Haven High School and continued on to honorably serve his country in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Germany for 3 years during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Piper Aircraft after many years of service. He served as a member of the Jersey Shore Lions Club and the Masonic Lodge in Jersey Shore.

     He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara A. Long; nieces, Shelia (Jim) Russo of Mill Hall, Cindy (Steve) Miller of Lock Haven, and Stephanie (Bob) Scott of York; nephews, Walter (Angela) Long of Lock Haven, Jeff (Amy) Long of Mill Hall, James Dershem of Lock Haven, Charles Dershem of Lock Haven and Ralph (Sherry) Dershem of Antes Fort; sister-in-law, Norma Long of Lock Haven; many great-nieces and nephews; and a special cousin, Zach Garman of Reynoldsville, PA

     A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 17, 2022 at Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. Thursday, until the time of service at Welker Funeral Home. The Rev. Dr. Kerry Aucker will officiate. He will be laid to rest in the Jersey Shore Cemetery. Following the graveside service, there will be a luncheon at St. John Lutheran Church, 229 S. Broad Street, Jersey Shore.

     In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bud's name may be made to either St. John Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice.
