Clara Mae Glunk Obituary

Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and wife, Clara Mae, joined her parents, younger sister Cynthia, and the Lord on June 26, 2024.

Clara Mae was born on April 24, 1937, the daughter of Lewis A. (Cy) and Clara E. (Clixie) Cohick. She was the younger sister of Carolyn (Ronnie) Thompson, Connie (Bud) Whitehill, and the older sister of Cynthia (Ted) Dwyer.

A faithful wife, Clara Mae just celebrated her 65th wedding anniversary with her husband Bob on June 20th of this year. Clara Mae dedicated her adult life to her three sons, Daniel (Peggy), Timothy, and Robert (Lisa). She was a devoted grandmother, shopping buddy, and friend to her seven grandchildren, Joshua (Katie), Emily (Ryan), Brigitta, Andrew, Christopher (Libby), Zachary, and Tommy (Tammy).

She never missed a single birthday party, holiday, sports game, violin concert, horseshow, or family event. She was so thrilled to become a great-grandmother to her five great-granddaughters Lettie, Mila, Maisie, Tillie, and Marley. She instilled in all of her children and grandchildren thededication, kindness, and wit (with just a dash of stubbornness) that personified her spirit. Her gentle demeanor was well-suited for her first career as a kindergarten teacher, where she spent 20 years positively impacting many children in the community.

In her second career, she was a pioneer and a role model for her granddaughters and great-granddaughters, entering the male-dominated insurance field in the 1980s, earning a competitive position as a State Farm agent, and building a successfulbusiness from scratch. Anyone that knew her would attest to her selflessness and ability to put everyone else first without a second thought, right up until the end, when she concluded a conversation about her memorial service by saying that she "hopes we all like it." Clara Mae passed peacefully surrounded by the love and dedication that she exemplified.

We would like to thank the amazing nurses at UPMC Williamsport, especially Natalie, Caroline, and Laurel, who took wonderful care of her during her final days on earth. We would also like to thank Dr. Warren Robinson for his outstanding medical care, support, and kindness during the many years of her cancer journey. Clara Mae’s family will miss her forever and will strive to honor her memory by serving others the way that she did. Grandma Mae, we can’t wait to meet you "in the garden" someday.

The family will be having a private celebration of life on June 29th at Salladasburg United Methodist Church. We ask that any donations in her memory be made to the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, which took such good care of her during her courageous fourteen-year battle and where she volunteered to pay that kindness forward.

If interested, please direct all donations payable to Susquehanna Health Foundation, UPMC Hillman Cancer Center Williamsport, in memory of Clara Mae Glunk.

Arrangements are entrusted to Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, Jersey Shore
