Dr. Rev. Frederick Lee Bierly, 89, of Jersey Shore, passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2025. Born March 11, 1935 in Jersey Shore, he was the son to the late Ardell Bierly and the former Margaret Marshall. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Marilyn M. Sweeney, they were united in marriage on July 20, 1957. He was preceded in death by his brothers, David and Ronald Bierly; son-in-law, Michael Welch; and a niece, Beverly Sweeney.
Fred honorably served his country in the United States Army. He was a 1953 graduate of Jersey Shore High School, received his B.S. at Lock Haven State College in Secondary Education Mathematics, a Masters degree at Bucknell and a D. Ed. at Penn State University. He worked as a Computer Science Professor at Williamsport Area Community College and Bloomsburg State College and retired from PSU. He was a member of the Jersey Shore Presbyterian Church, the Labelle Vallee Lodge No. 232 F&AM. Fred served on the Board of Jersey Shore Hospital and enjoyed golfing.
He is survived by a daughter, Margaret B. Welch, of Jersey Shore; son, Michael A. Bierly, of Jersey Shore; 4 grandchildren, Corrie W. Roadarmel (Luke), Benjamin M. Welch (Victoria), Sophia M. Bierly and Rachel M. Bierly; and three great-grandchildren, Ruby Roadarmel, Remi Welch and Slate Welch.
A time of visitation will be held 11 a.m. to 12 noon, Monday, February 10, 2025 at Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore, followed by a Funeral Service at 12 noon, Monday at Welker Funeral Home. Pastor Charles Winkleman will officiate. He will be laid to rest next to his wife in the Jersey Shore Cemetery.
