Edward Eyer Obituary

     Edward R. Eyer, 73, of Avis, passed away Sunday, June 2, 2024, at his home. Born Dec. 10, 1950, in Lock Haven, Pa., he was the son of the late Clyde and Irene Eyer.

     In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Clyde, Jr. and Richard Eyer.

     He was a 1968 graduate of Lock Haven Senior High School. He was involved in the Purple Whirl and sang in his church choir. Edward honorably served his country in the United States Army National Guard (728th Division) as a staff sergeant for 16 years. He was a boy scout leader for numerous years and an assistant baseball coach for many years. He worked at Castleberry's in Lock Haven in 1969, then at American Color and Chemical Co. for 13 1/2 years, and at Ruetgers Organics for 20 years. He then got a job at Avery Dennison after the plant was closed. He worked there for 12 years.

     He was a member of the Pathway To Christ Church (formerly known as the McElhattan Methodist Church). He was the treasurer at the Lock Haven American Legion and then transferred his post membership to Avis American Legion since it was closer to home. He helped with work on Michelle's family farm, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.

     Edward is survived by his loving wife, the former Michelle J. Green. They were united in marriage on April 22, 1972. Also surviving are his children, Shawn D. Eyer, Christy Eyer (Becky, good friend) and Aaron (Maryann) Eyer; grandchildren, Matthew, Ashton, Colby, Cadence, Katelin, Michaella, Sara and Kiersten; a great-granddaughter, Savanna; brothers, Robert Eyer, Pete Eyer and Don (Sarah) Eyer; two sisters, Eileen (Steve) Payton and Bessie Engel; and numerous nieces and nephews.

     A funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, at Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore, Pa. Pastor Laura Gilbert will officiate. Full military honors will be conducted by the Jersey Shore Honor Guard. A visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at Welker Funeral Home.

     A memorial service will be held at the Pathway to Christ Church, 502 McElhattan Drive, McElhattan, Pa., on June 15, 2024, at 12 p.m. Pastor Laura Gilbert will be officiating. There will be a short service and then a meal afterward. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Edward's name may be made to the Avis American Legion Post 284, 3115 Woodward Ave., Avis, PA 17721, or to the Pathway to Christ Church, 502 McElhattan Drive, PO Box 343, McElhattan, PA 17748.
