Obituary

Flo Loretta (Livermore) Landon, 89, of Cogan House Township, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2023 at The Williamsport Home. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard Landon, in 2021.

The youngest daughter of Emerson and Ollie (Crabtree) Livermore, Flo was born on Sept. 13, 1933. She grew up in Detroit, Mich., before her family moved to a farm in Liberty when she was about 12 years old. In her final days, Flo spent many hours fondly reminiscing about her transition from the big city to farm life, and all of the adventures she had with her sister and friends in both places.

After graduating from Liberty High School in 1951,  Flo enrolled in The Williamsport Hospital School of Nursing, and achieved her ambition of becoming a registered nurse in 1954. She married Dick in 1955, and they built a life together on their farm in Cogan House.

Flo was immensely proud of her nursing career. She worked at several area hospitals, primarily as an operating room nurse, where her precision, unending quest for knowledge, and conscientiousness shone. She scrubbed in, and assisted in the first hip replacement surgery in Williamsport, among countless other professional achievements.

In her retirement, in addition to caring for her aging parents and being an ever-present grandmother to her four granddaughters, Flo took up oil painting and filled her home with her still lifes, landscapes, and portraits of family members and beloved pets. She embraced new technologies, and taught a senior citizen computer class at the James V. Brown Library in the early 2000's. She loved to read, and had many varied interests including personal finance, World War II, science, and health. Her love of learning and strong work ethic served as an example and inspiration to her family and all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Flo will be deeply missed by her daughter, Lori Douglass (Michael), of Trout Run; granddaughters, Amanda Parks (Travis), of Chalfont, Stephanie Shehu (Christopher), of Brownsburg, Ind., Kristen Douglass, of Williamsport, and Ashley Douglass (Michael Casano), of West Bridgewater, Mass.; great-grandchildren, Isabeau and Henry Parks, Violet Shehu, and Loretta and Miles Casano; a sister, Betty LaMont (Fred).

A private memorial celebration will be held at a later date.

Flo was known throughout her community to always help others in times of need. As a testament to her quiet generosity, the family asks that you look to your neighbors, friends, or loved ones, and lend a helping hand or do a small act of kindness in her honor.

Arrangements are entrusted to Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, Jersey Shore.
