James A. Berfield

     James A. Berfield, 91, of Castanea, passed away Sunday, February 15, 2026 at Lock Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation.

     Born July 23, 1934 in Jersey Shore, he was a son to the late John O. Berfield Sr. and the former Helen Cunningham. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Shawn.

     James retired from Croda in 2000, where he worked as the Maintenance Department Manager. He the Castanea Township Zoning Officer, an original member of the PA 1000 Yard Bench Rest Club, and he loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter. For many years he was a member of the Waterville Fire Company, where he served as the Treasurer.

     He is survived by sons, James M. Berfield, of Williamsport, Jason E. (Mia) Berfield, of Dillsburg and Robert J. (Penny) Berfield, of Castanea; daughters, Diane S. (Harry) Hardt, of Baldwinsville, NY and Debra L. (Kim) Savrock, of Lock Haven; 8 grandchildren, Matthew, Shelby, Hayden, Landon, Sarah, Katie, Chad and Erin; and 4 great-grandchildren.

     A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. Tuesday, February 24 at Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St, Jersey Shore. Friends and family may call from 11 a.m. Tuesday until the time of service at Welker Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest in the Jersey Shore Cemetery. www.WelkerFuneralHome.com
