James “Gary” Day, 83, of Waterville, passed away quietly at home on Thursday, November 27, 2025. He and his wife, the former Mary Ann Wheary, celebrated their 25th wedding Anniversary in August.
Born on March 24,1942, in Altoona, he was the son of the late James W. and Helen L. Day.
Gary was a graduate of Belwood Antis High School, and later attended Millersville State College, where he played basketball. He began teaching at Jersey Shore High School in 1964, where he taught Industrial Arts for more than 30 years. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman, was well known for his fine woodworking skills, and enjoyed playing the guitar.
Gary was preceded in death by first wife, Sandra Haney Day, and is survived by their son, James, and daughters, Diana (Dave), and Julie (Kevin), and grandchildren: Ashley, Andrew, and Sarah. He is also survived by his current wife, Mary Ann, stepson, Eric (Denise) and stepdaughter, Kim (Tom) and their families.
A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, December 5, at Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. He will be laid to rest in the Montoursville Cemetery.
