John R. Frey

     John R. Frey of Linden, Pa., recently passed away in a land he loved, in the sun by the sea.  
     Born in South Williamsport, John was an attentive student and, as in his entire life, poured into all he studied.  As a young teen, John devoted himself to ministry and was active in youth camps.  John’s family was in the tire business, where John worked many long and hard hours, becoming a Master Craftsman in the tire retreading trade.  John later moved into the finance business, managing a local finance company before moving to banking for over 32 years.  Through study and an intensive drive, John implemented the secondary market mortgage program before becoming Chief Compliance Officer.  His compassion for helping customers and mentoring co-workers was a badge he wore well.
     Meeting the love of his life as a youngster in the orthodontist office and reconnecting while shoveling snow in Market Square, John and his wife Barbara shared 36 years together.  Adventure was truly John’s middle name, portaging canoes in Canada, then sharing many great adventures with his wife.  An outdoorsman through and through, there were many days spent in the garden, hiking, hunting and fishing.  Sponsoring a church baseball team in Villa Migante (PIFB&S), DR, John and his wife shared his passion for baseball.  His last great joy in life was spending his time in the islands, where he chose to go when losing his battle to heart disease.
     John is survived by his wife, Barbara, two sons, Josiah and Joel, (both veterans), his mother, brother, sister, sister-in-law, five grandchildren and his beloved canine rescue.  A strong driven person who measured himself by perfection, his passing leaves an immeasurable void in those he knew and loved.  âIt is good to have an end to journey toward; but it is the journey that matters in the endã   E.      Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, Inc., Toby and Abbey are assisting the family in this immense period of grief.  An island-style remembrance gathering will be held from 12 to 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 17, 2022, at Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore.
