Obituary

Lower C. "Skip" Wagner, 89, of Avis, PA, passed away March 26, 2022 in the UPMC Susquehanna Williamsport Hospital with his loving family by his side.
He was born May 16, 1932 in Lock Haven to the late Lower E. Wagner and Marie (Ricker) Wagner.
Lower was a graduate of Jersey Shore High School in 1950.  After graduating and while working at Jersey Shore Steel Company he was called upon to serve his country.  He answered the call and served in the United States Army with the 63rd Field Artillery Battalion, in fire direction, during the Korean war.  He came back from Korea and completed training as a machinist at the Williamsport Technical Institute while continuing employment at Jersey Shore Steel.  He became the head of the machine shop and plant maintenance at Jersey Shore Steel and had over 44 years of service at the time of his retirement in 1994.
After his retirement, he and his wife Joan (Snell) embarked upon the journey of a lifetime.  They sold their house, purchased an RV and set off to explore North America full time, camping all over the United States and Canada, while famously enjoying his peanut butter sandwiches and tea.  Their travels took them through every state in the union with the exception of Hawaii.  Skip always said that they would consider going to Hawaii whenever they construct a bridge.  He and Joan were able to pursue their passion for travel and camping for over 25 years.
Throughout his life, faith and family were always paramount to him and he was a lifelong member of the Lutheran faith and was a member of Saint John’s Lutheran Church.
He is survived by Joan, his wife of nearly 63 years; three daughters, Marie Barta (Chas), Pamela Wagner-Hicks (Timothy) and Paula Noltee (Al); two sons, Keith (Joan) and Timothy (Emmy); six grandchildren, Andria Civils (Scott), Matthew, Amanda, Mason, Logan and Caitlynne; and two great grandchildren, Lumen and Ruby.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff at the Williamsport Hospital, and a special thanks to Dr Abdalla Sholi and his oncology staff for their compassionate consultation and care that was second to none.
A time of visitation is scheduled for Friday April 1, 2022 from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. A memorial service will be conducted by The Rev. Dr. Kerry Aucker of Saint John’s Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. at the Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main Street, Jersey Shore.  Internment will be at Linnwood Cemetery, McElhattan, following the service with full military honors conducted by the Jersey Shore Honor Guard.
