The Rev. George J. Morton, 79, of Jersey Shore, entered glory on Friday, Feb. 17, 2023 at his home.
Born Jan. 5, 1944 in Jersey Shore, he was the son to the late George B. Morton and the former Reba W. Bay.
George was a 1961 graduate of Jersey Shore High School and was also a graduate of Liberty University with a M.S. and B.S. degrees. He served as a minister for 12 years then served as director at the Center of Independent Living in Williamsport. For several years, he was the Chaplain in the Clinton County Prison System. Earlier in his life, he also worked at the Lock Haven Express. George was a member of Crossroads Church and the Jersey Shore Kiwanis Club.
He received many awards during his devotion to his community including, Tens Years of Service to the Center for Independent Living of North Central Pa., Human and Spiritual Values Award, the Gibson Rehab Center's Annual Achievement Awards, Essential Piece Award, Pa. Independence Living Conference Hall of Fame Award, and the Governor's Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities Recognition.
He is survived by his loving wife, the former Anna Irene Moyer, they were united in marriage on Sept. 11, 1965. Also surviving are three daughters, Holly J. (Mike) Laylon, of Montoursville, Dawn M. (William) Sylvanio, of Jersey Shore and Nicole L. (James) Dailey, of Jersey Shore; and three grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 12 noon, Thursday, Feb. 23, 2033 at Crossroads Church, 1454 Rt. 44, Jersey Shore. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of service Thursday at church. The Rev. Jason Borowicz will officiate. He will be laid the rest in the Jersey Shore Cemetery.
