Richard Clair Thompson Sr., 94, of Jersey Shore, passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 25, 2024.
Born May 20, 1930 In Jersey Shore, he was a son to the late Clair D. Thompson and Annie Kissel Thompson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joan R. Thompson; his daughter, Katherine Thompson; and his brothers, Jack, Howard and Ronald.
Dick, at Jersey Shore High School, was a 4 year letterman in football. He was Salutatorian and graduated in 1948. Dick then enlisted in the U.S Navy. He served in the Korean War. He was a radio operator in combat. During his service time he met his wife Joan Rathgeber Thompson. They were married December 29th 1952. After the Korean War Dick attended Penn State University but did not finish because he was needed at home to help the family business. Dick worked and managed Thompson Food Service for 70 years.
Dick was very passionate about his patriotism. He was a member and chairman of the Lycoming County Republican Party. A few years ago he was honored with Lincoln award for his service to the Republican community. He was also a member of many local clubs, VFW, ELKS, and American Legion. He was also a member of the Masonic Temple. Dick served on the Jersey Shore School board for many years. Dick was a member of the Texas Blockhouse and fishing Game club. He was an avid hunter and loved spending time hunting with his sons, grandchildren and family. He loved watching his children play sports and then his grandchildren. He would attend every sporting event he could.
His first wife, Joan passed 2013, and many years later he met his second wife, Sharon Pedro. They were married June 16, 2019 and resided in Proctor with their 2 dogs, Moses and Taffy. Dick is also survived by his children, Richard Jr. (Holly) Thompson, Kurt (Karen) Thompson; step sons, Wayne and Shane Pedro; grandchildren, Kamala (Jason) Confair, Lauren (Jeremy) Reed, Ethan Thompson, Clark Thompson, Colton Thompson, Breanna Thompson, Richard III Thompson, Ryan Thompson; great-grandchildren, William Confair, Theodore Confair, Hannah Walters, Hunter Walters, Hayden Reed and Hudson Reed; and his step-grandchildren, Silas Pedro and Zane Pedro.
A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, November 3, 2024 at Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, November 4, 2024 at St. Luke's Catholic Church, 118 Kendall Ave., Jersey Shore. He will be laid to rest in the Rest Haven Memorial Park will full military honors conducted by the Jersey Shore Honor Guard.
