Robert L. "Cy" Hughes, 88, of Trout Run, passed away Monday, March 18, 2024c at UPMC Williamsport after a sudden illness, surrounded by his loving family.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Sonja M. (Kreger) Hughes.
Born Nov. 13, 1935, in Cogan House, he was a son to the late Earl E. and Velda G. (Bonnell) Hughes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Paul Hughes; two brothers, Carl Hughes Sr. and George Hughes; and four sisters, Betty Vollman, Ethel Collister, Lois Hughes and Mary Wilson.
Cy was a faithful member of the Steam Valley Bible Church. After a long career with the Pennsylvania Game Commission in Game Land Management, he worked as the Cogan House Township Supervisor for 24 years. After retirement, Cy volunteered with the Morris Volunteer Fire Company - Cogan House Substation, where he was a dedicated first responder and loyal supporter of the department from 1997 until the present day.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, John E. (Cathy) Hughes of Durham, N.C. and William D. (Kristen) Persun of Cranesville; daughters, Janet L. Hatfield of Havelock, N.C., Deborah K. Hughes (Carl) of Trout Run, Beth Ann (Dwain) English of Williamsport, Lesia M. (Steven) Weeks of Wellsboro, and Doleen M. (David) Hood of Honeoye Falls, N.Y.; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Dora B. Coursey of Middletown, Del.
A funeral service to honor Cy’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at the Steam Valley Bible Church, 570 PA-184, Trout Run, PA 17771, and he will be laid to rest in the Summit Cemetery at White Pine. Friends and family may call from 3 to 6 p.m. on Friday, March 22, 2024, at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made in Cy’s name to the Steam Valley Bible Church, 570 PA-184, Trout Run, PA 17771 or the Morris Volunteer Fire Company, 2001 Route 287, Morris, PA 16938.
