Ruth Harris Kamsler, age 101, passed away on April 17, 2024, at Westminster St. Augustine, Florida.
She was born on January 1, 1923, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Ruth graduated in 1942 from Jersey Shore High School, Pennsylvania, as valedictorian. In 1945 she graduated from Arnot Ogden School of Nursing in Elmira, New York, as an RN. In 1946, she married Dr. Milton A. Kamsler Jr. They had three children and lived in Oregon, Detroit, Germany, California, the Midwest, and Florida and traveled the world.
Later on, she worked in her husband’s medical practice. She also found fulfillment as a homemaker while raising her children. In her free time, Ruth had a passion for reading and learning. This was evident in her extensive collection of history, art, and religious books. She also found joy in gardening, bridge, cooking, sewing, needlepoint and her family. She had a strong Christian faith.
Ruth is survived by her children: Scott Kamsler (Linda Bishop), Susan Kamsler (John Fogg), and Kirk Kamsler (Cindy), along with 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Louise Harris of Pennsylvania and many other family members in Pennsylvania. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Dr. Milton Kamsler and 2 brothers and a sister.
A Celebration of Life in honor of Ruth will be held in Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania at 11:00 AM on July 8, 2024. Her burial will take place at the Jersey Shore Cemetery in the Harris family plot.
