Sarah E. Ely-Converse peacefully passed away on March 31st, 2026, at the Gatehouse in Williamsport.
Born on August 21st, 1951 in Jersey Shore PA, she was the daughter of William L. and Mary Elizabeth (Adams) Ely, who preceded her in death.
She graduated from Jersey Shore High School in 1969 and was active in band and chorus. She attended Susquehanna University, graduated from Lycoming College, with a BA in Art, and later attended Georgetown University studying to obtain a degree in Library Science. After graduating from Lycoming, Sarah began a successful career in the graphic arts field, which led her to the Washington DC area, where she met her husband Lawrence (Larry) Converse. Sarah’s creativity in the graphic arts field presented many interesting career opportunities, and she retired as the Production Manager of “OT Practice,” magazine.
Sarah and Larry liked to travel, and would frequently visit the Jersey Shore area, especially “Torbert Village”, along Pine Creek, where the family owned a cabin. Soon after they retired Sarah and Larry renovated the cabin and moved to Torbert Village.
In line with her love of creative design, she redesigned the cabin into a beautiful retirement home where she and Larry were able to enjoy the splendor of nature along Pine Creek from their front porch.
Sarah is survived by her husband Larry Converse, a sister Molly Hollick (Jon), brothers, Bill (Susan) and Jim Ely (Lisa). She had many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews with whom she was very fond of, and always made a point of keeping up-to-date on their activities.
In honoring Sarah’s wishes, there will be no service and the family will hold a private time of remembrance at a later date.
