Sonja M. Hughes

     Sonja M. Hughes, 86, of Trout Run, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 17, 2025 surrounded by her family at home. She was the wife of Robert L. "Cy" Hughes, who passed away March 18, 2024. They were married for 54 years. 

     Born March 8,1938 in Blossburg, PA, Sonja was the daughter of Kenneth J. and Berneda (Fulkerson) Kreger. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Alvin and Milton Kreger. 

     Sonja retired from Brodart after many years of service. One of her greatest joys in life was her family. She also loved quilting, gardening, and all things music. Sonja was a church musician, community piano teacher, and a clarinetist in several community bands. She was a faithful member of the Steam Valley Bible Church, where she shared her musical talents. 

     Sonja is survived by 4 daughters, Deborah K. (Carl) Hughes, of Longs, SC, Beth A. (Dwain) English, of Williamsport, Lesia M. (Steve) Weeks, of Wellsboro, Doleen M. (Dave) Hood, of Honeoye Falls, NY; a son, William D. (Kristen) Persun of Cranesville, PA; a stepson, John E. (Cathy) Hughes of Durham, NC; a stepdaughter, Janet L. Hatfield of Havelock, NC; a brother, Terry L. (Myra) Kreger, of Arnot, PA; 2 sisters-in-law, Mary Jo Kreger and JoAnn Kreger; 15 grandchildren; and 21 great grandchildren. 

     A Funeral Service will be held at noon on Saturday February 22, 2025 at Steam Valley Bible Church, 570 PA-184, Trout Run, Pa 17771. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Pastor Thomas MacAvoy will officiate. She will be laid to rest at the Summit Cemetery in White Pine. 

     Memorial contributions may be made in Sonja’s name to the Steam Valley Bible Church, 570 PA-184, Trout Run, Pa 17771.
