Susan R. Cashner

     Susan R. Cashner, 70, of Lock Haven, passed away peacefully Monday, October 27, 2025, with her family by her side.

     Sue was born in St. Mary’s to Raymond and Keturah (Gray) Strouse on June 4, 1955. She graduated from St. Mary’s Area High School in 1973.

     Her love of music and talent for singing and playing musical instruments began early. As a child Sue could effortlessly play the guitar and piano but would eventually learn to play the violin and harmonica too. Between 1975 and 1977, Susan played for several musical groups that opened for George Jones and Tammy Wynette, Tom T. Hall, and Freddie Fender. She also played and did lead vocals for a group called ‘The Nashville Collection’. She would later describe this time with excitement over meeting musical heroes like Loretta Lynne, the Statler Brothers, Ernest Tubb, Roy Clark, and visiting the stage for the show ‘Hee Haw’.

     In 1977, while Susan was working at a department store, she met a handsome manager named Bill. She would later tell family and friends with a grin that she got her husband at Ames. Susan Strouse married William “Bill” Cashner in 1978, and they welcomed a daughter named Rebecca the same year. When Bill died in 2024, he and Sue had enjoyed 47 years together. Sue and Bill were avid campers, sometimes towing a camper trailer as far as Vermont, North Carolina, and Indiana, enjoying nature and other attractions along the way. They were also frequent visitors to the coast, with Ocean City, Maryland, a favorite spot. Sue’s refrigerator was a literal map of her travels; she had a magnet from everywhere she went.

     Sue was meticulously involved in researching and documenting her family’s geneology. She was the go-to person for any questions regarding the history of our family tree. She also participated in family reunions displaying her work for all the family to see.

     Susan is predeceased by her husband William and her parents Raymond and Keturah and a stillborn brother.

     She is survived by her daughter Rebecca and her husband Steven and grandson Ryan Willits, from Jersey Shore.

     Visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, November 6, 2025, at Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 North Main Street, Jersey Shore, PA 17740, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Welker Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Rest Haven Memorial Park.
