William H. L. Williams

     William H.L. Williams, 92, of Jersey Shore, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2025.

     Born December 16, 1932, he was the son of the late Walter L. Williams and Frances E. Hemsley. He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Doris C. Hamilton, his brother, John, and his grandson and namesake, William "Billy" H.L. Williams.

     Bill spent much of his childhood at his family’s cottage on Pine Creek, often recalling fond memories of hunting, fishing, hiking, and swimming with friends and family. On the first day of trout season, you could always find him at his favorite fishing spot on Little Pine, fishing pole in hand, passing on his secrets and memories to his grandchildren. While attending Jersey Shore High School, Bill played Lead Trumpet in the school band under the guidance of Frank D. Schoendorfer. He also formed his own jazz band, The Jolly Jivers, which he was proud of.

     Bill’s career began with the New York Central Railroad as a Radio Maintainer in Corning, NY. Thirty-six years later, he retired from Conrail out of the Newberry, Pa location. In retirement, Bill enjoyed his beloved game of golf and embraced the RV lifestyle, often traveling to Texas during the winter months with his wife Doris. Above all, Bill will be remembered as a true gentleman-kind, generous, and full of love and light.

     Bill is survived by his sister, Marie Hoover of Germantown, MD; his son, William Williams (Kathy) of Webster, NY; his daughter, Jean Myers of Jersey Shore; and his grandchildren, Michael (Mallory) Myers, Morgan (Kevin) Snook, Mary Youngs, Ryan, and Connor Williams. He is also survived by his great-granddaughters, Camilla, Vera, Raina, and Charlotte. Bill is further survived by his step-children, Charlie (Sandra) Stocum, Marc (Teresa) Stocum, and Melody (Dan) Fegley, as well as their children and grandchildren. He shared a special bond with his step-granddaughter, Marcia (Michael) Gray-Wilkerson, and her family.

     The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at The Williamsport Home for their exceptional care and support. During Dad’s time there, he formed a cherished friendship with Jeannie Murphy and her daughters, Tricia and Tammy. Their love, laughter, and companionship brought him immense joy. The unwavering kindness of both Jeannies family and the dedicated staff ensured his last year was filled with comfort and dignity. The care and attention provided by the entire team-from the nursing staff to the aides-meant the world to our family, and we will be forever grateful.

     A visitation will be held 11 a.m. to noon, Monday, February 24 at Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore, followed by a funeral Service at 12 p.m. at Welker Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest in the Jersey Shore Cemetery. www.WelkerFuneralHome.com.
