Robert Allen Herritt, 86, of Williamsport, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2022 at UPMC Williamsport Hospital.
Born June 18, 1935 in Jersey Shore, PA, he was the son to the late Allen Pearly Herritt and the former Minnie Frances Herritt.
Robert was a graduate of Williamsport Area High School. He was drafted into the United States Army in May 1955, after basic training at Fort Drum, New York. He was assigned to the 10th Mountain Division; 8th Battalion as a radio operator. He served a tour in the country of Germany. He was Honorably Discharged in May 1957. He obtained the rank of Private First Class.
He worked for 32 years at Lycoming Printing company then went to work at Reed Hahn Litho company for 16 years. His last job was working for Walmart for 13 years before retiring. He was a member of Straight-Line Outreach Ministry. Robert loved to read and study his Bible. He enjoyed doing crossword puzzle books and puzzles. He collected stamps and coins. He was a train enthusiast and loved to read books and magazines about trains in the states of Pennsylvania and New Yok. He enjoyed riding and touring trains, whenever he had an opportunity. He loved writing letters to the military chaplains and missionaries of the Christian and Missionary Alliance. He loved his family and will be sadly missed.
He was married to the late Gloria J. Gilbert. They were united in marriage April 25, 1964. Two sons, Douglas A. (Janice) Herritt of Dale City, Va. and Tim L. (Dianna) Herritt of Williamsport, Pa.; daughter; Pamela J. Girard (Chris) of Mulberry, Fla.; 6 grandchildren; a sister-in-law and, brother-in-law. Zachary and Noah of Douglas A. (Janice) Herritt; Zennon of Tim L. Herritt; Blake, Jenna and Alex of Pamela J. (Chris) Girard, Phyllis Runge of Bloomsburg, Pa., Thomas Kehrer (Patricia Herritt) of Florida.
A funeral service will be held at 1000 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2022 at the Central Baptist Church, 601 7th Avenue, Williamsport, with a visitation time beginning at 0900 a.m. until the time of service. The Rev. Dianna Herritt will officiate. He will be laid to rest in the Twin Hills Memorial Park.
